Koji and I met at Yamato-Kamiichi station, about 1 1/2 hours by train from Osaka. Another two hours bus ride along
beautiful mountain and river landscapes took us to Zenki-guchi, the starting point of our hike around noon, at a height of about
300 m. From here we first followed a small street up to Fudonanaenotaki falls and a bit later, at a hutch the street
finally ended and the "real" hiking track began. It was rather foggy, so the view was not very impressive but on
the other hand the fog gave the forest a pretty mysterious atmosphere. And it let us finally lose the track somewhere
in an almost dried mountain river. As it was getting dark after about 6 hours hiking, we decided to put out tent
right where we were and hike on the following day. We even found a big, flat rock to put our tent and had a nice outdoor
dinner without being disturbed by the local bears (only the moscitos). Unfortunately, our camping rock was not
horizontal but rather steep so we slipped down
in our sleeping bags with every movement. Thus, we spent the night on a pretty cold and hard rock hardly moving
at all. Not the most comfortable camping experience but surely kind of an adventure.
